Welcome to Miracles, the Loaves and Fishes newsletter! This is the program’s way of keeping our friends and supporters up to date on happenings at the program. It’s also a periodic reminder that we need your continuing support of our work serving those of our neighbors who need a free hot meal on Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays.
Each year, volunteers organized by the Edlavitch Jewish Community Center of Washington, D.C. come to Loaves and Fishes on Christmas day to help with food preparation, wrap gifts, and give gifts to guests. For 31 years, DCJCC has organized a day of service to the Christmas-celebrating community. The idea is to provide extra support to local organizations "when many might be understaffed or stretched thin, said Sonya Weisburd, director of social justice and volunteer programs." DCJCC organized about 1,000 volunteers to help with over 50 projects across the city.
Loaves and Fishes is thankful to partner with DCJCC and appreciative of DCJCC's generous volunteers!
To read more about the DCJCC's day of service, check out this article in Washington Jewish Week about the volunteers who dress up like Santa and Elves to bring gifts and cheer around D.C! You can also learn about DCJCC from their website.
